Eye Conditions: Acanthamoeba Keratitis
Acanthamoeba Keratitis is an eye condition that results from poor contact lens hygiene. This can lead to a rare, but serious eye infection developing. Patients who suffer from the eye condition Acanthamoeba Keratitis can suffer permanent eye damage and even blindness. This eye infection is caused when microscopic, free-living ameba called Acanthamoeba invade the outer covering of the eye called the cornea. Early signs of infection can resemble many other eye infections and symptoms can last for several weeks to several months.
